Environmental Choice™

Strathcona’s full line of recycled paper board is the first and only one to have received Environmental Choice™ certification in 2007.

Environmental Choice™ Program
In 1988, Environment Canada established the Environmental Choice™ Program – an independent set of standards and certification. It identifies products and services meeting strict criteria of environmental leadership.

Since 1996, the EcoLogo program has been managed by TerraChoice Environmental Marketing.

For a paper board product to be certified, the environmental impact of its entire life cycle is considered:
  • energy and material consumed in production
  • pollutants generated by their production, use and disposal
Specific measurements in the paperboard category include:
  • air emissions
  • water emissions
  • waste reduction
  • efficient use of fibre, preferably recycled fibre
  • energy use
The EcoLogo™
With certification comes the right to use the EcoLogo™. Use of the logo helps buyers and customers identify the world’s most environmentally friendly products.

All Strathcona paper board products are certified, carry the EcoLogo™ and
  1. meet or exceed all applicable government and industrial safety and performance standards
  2. are manufactured and transported in accordance with all applicable government acts, by laws and regulations, including the Fisheries Act and the Canadian Environmental Protection Act
  3. adhere to a full range of technical specifications, which begin on page 5 (PDF)
