Environmental ChoiceM

Strathcona’s full line of recycled paper board is the first and only one to have received Environment Canada’s Environmental ChoiceM Program certification in 2007.

Environmental ChoiceM Program
In 1988, Environment Canada established the Environmental ChoiceM Program – an independent set of standards and certification. It identifies products and services meeting strict criteria of environmental leadership.

For a paper board product to be certified, the environmental impact of its entire life cycle is considered:
  • energy and material consumed in production
  • pollutants generated by their production, use and disposal
Specific measurements in the paperboard category include:
  • air emissions
  • water emissions
  • waste reduction
  • efficient use of fibre, preferably recycled fibre
  • energy use
The EcoLogoM
With certification comes the right to use the EcoLogoM. Use of the logo helps buyers and customers identify the world’s most environmentally friendly products.

All Strathcona paper board products are certified, carry the EcoLogoM and
  1. meet or exceed all applicable government and industrial safety and performance standards
  2. are manufactured and transported in accordance with all applicable government acts, by laws and regulations, including the Fisheries Act and the Canadian Environmental Protection Act
  3. adhere to a full range of technical specifications (128 KB PDF)
