Recycling Paperboard Packaging Matters
The dual mandate of environmental sensitivity and manufacturing specialization continues to rule at Strathcona. That is why we manufacture only 100% recycled paperboard.
In a single year of Strathcona production, the positive environmental impact* of using 100% recycled content helps our environment to:
- save 1,983,757 BTUs of energy… sufficient to power 21,800 homes for a year
- save 1,605,420,445 gallons of water… sufficient to fill 2,431 swimming pools
- keep 210,268,455 lbs of greenhouse gases out of the air… the equivalent of taking 19,093 cars off the road
- save 146,061,699 pounds of solid waste… the contents of 5,216 garbage trucks
- save 2,307,920 trees

Consumers Prefer Companies Using Recycled Packaging
According to a survey of shoppers:
- 63% of respondents rated the perceived quality of recycled packaging the same or better than virgin packages
- 61% were more inclined to purchase products from a company using recycled boxboard packaging
- 77% felt better about a company using recyclable paperboard packaging
- 80% felt they were doing something good for the environment when buying products packed in recycled paperboard packaging
- 85% believed that using recycled paperboard packaging will make a better future for your children

Strathcona Environmental Policy
Strathcona Paper is committed to conducting its business and operations in an environmentally sensitive and responsible manner. In addition, Strathcona Paper will regularly prepare and review environmental objectives and targets that are consistent with this Environmental Policy and Environmental Management System. Strathcona Paper is committed to:
- the prevention of pollution
- reducing the environmental impact of its operations on and near the mill site, and in particular, as such environmental impact relates to the local aquatic environment of the Napanee River
- meeting all applicable environmental legislation, regulations, promulgations and standards set by statute, or by other recognized regulatory bodies, including other environmental requirements to which the mill subscribes
- the continual improvement of its environmental management system and environmental performance
