Karicote – Consumer Boxboard Packaging

Consumer Boxboard Packaging
A Recycled Alternative to Coated Unbleached Kraft (CUK)
Karicote is a 100% recycled double clay coated board designed for carrier board applications; a recycled alternative to CUK. It is most commonly used for hardware, beer, beverage, food and pet food packaging. Like Strathcote, Karicote provides superior value because of its density and strength characteristics. The kraft back liner and filler fibre construction give Karicote its strength to provide a recycled packaging alternative to CUK. Available in Grade II or Grade V sizing, it is an ideal recycled substrate for multi-pack beverage packaging, pet food and household goods. Karicote is available in rolls or sheets in 450 um/18 pt, 500 um/20 pt, 575 um/23 pt and 600 um/24 pt.

Product Description
Karicote is manufactured from 100% post-use recycled waste paper fibres. Approximately 65% of this post-use waste paper is post-consumer material and 35% is industrial scrap.

Karicote features a double clay coated surface and a kraft back liner for general folding carton applications. Karicote is an ideal choice for a wide range of consumer packaging applications where a kraft coloured back liner is appropriate. Karicote can be converted into a wide range of end uses. The most common are hardware, beverage and food packaging. Available with Grade II (1,200 seconds) or Grade V (3,000 seconds) sizing, it is an ideal substrate for multi-pack beverage packaging and offers a recyclable alternative to CUK board.

Karicote is a denser, stiffer, brighter and higher plybond grade of boxboard. Verified by the Recycled Paperboard Technical Association (RPTA), these properties differentiate Karicote in the market.

Karicote is in compliance with the regulatory frameworks of both the US Federal Food and Drug Administration Act (FDA) and the California EPA Proposition 65 for direct food contact. It also complies with the provisions of the model state law, CONEG, for heavy metal content. Metal detection capabilities to a particle size of 1.0 mm are available on sheeted stock.

Product Structure
Karicote is a multi-ply sheet with a double clay coating applied over a top liner of pulp substitute fibre (e.g., recycled computer printout paper, sorted office waste paper) with a recycled filler fibre base. The filler fibre is comprised of double lined kraft, old corrugated cartons, boxboard and newsprint. In addition, Karicote can be produced with an application of a special biodegradable sizing agent to provide moisture resistance to the boxboard.
